Teachers brainwashed by D.S

After a long, tiring school trip for a volleyball tournament, the team was finally heading back home. While waiting in the airport at Bratislava, reporters say there was a bag left at a corner without any owner’s tag or any other information. While the team’s coach and English teacher was on her way heading to the bathroom (innocently and minding her own business), she passed by the “suspicious” bag. Suddenly the bag moved slightly and caught the coach’s attention. She thought she was hallucinating for a moment but then she went to examine the bag before reporting it to airport security. As she was getting closer and closer something magical occurred, so rapid that it only took less than seconds to arise. The coach was HYPNOTIZED. Walking awkwardly and faintly she decided to go back and join her fellow students and colleague. The students noticed something different when they saw her eyes rolling towards the Nintendo D.S and cherishing it preciously. She gently asked for it so they don’t realize that there was anything wrong. While she was playing fiercely, the students were reading apart from two who were surfing the internet and weren’t affected by the spell. Thankfully this spell only lasted for half an hour if it hadn’t been for the 2 girls who weren’t hypnotized into reading or playing the D.S. Reporters also stated that the girls had informed the security about the “magical hypnotizing” bag and asked them to handle it gently while they travelled back safely.

My Easter Break

Last day of school I went downtown with Eleni and it started raining really hard. We rushed back to school to get our bags and wait for Jess to finish her after school activity. When we got to school we were totally soaked, as if we’ve been dumped in a pool and taken out. Later then we went to the cinema and watched a superlative movie. Saturday was the Catholic Easter and I don’t really remember what I did. On Monday I went to the mall with some friends. Tuesday I went shopping with my mum and aunt it was alright not so fun though. I spent the rest of the week at home watching TV, sleeping and sometimes going over to my aunt’s house. On the Orthodox Good Friday I went church for a bit then went to visit other churches as well.

Saturday afternoon I was getting ready to go to church at nigh. I went with my oldest brother. When we got back him my 2nd eldest brother had arrived with some friends. It was the 1st Easter we’ve had as a complete family since my brother left for university. We spent the night talking, drinking and then we had an Easter feast at midnight. Sunday we had a barbeque with the guests that had come to visit.

The last week of my vacations I mostly spent my time reading books and watching movies. I also went to my aunt’s house again, went out with some friends, watched TV and continued sleeping. On Thursday night I had 2 incoherent nightmares that made me have profound thoughts and got me really worried. Although thinking at night before I go to bed is kind of a habit.

Tornado Chasers (Twister film critique)

Twister (1996) is an adventure, action, romance and thriller movie about tornadoes and their effects. Directed by Jan De Bont and written by Michael Crichton and Anne-Marie Martin. Starring Helen Hunt (as Dr. Jo Harding) and Bill Paxton (Bill Harding) who are scientists that were married and they’re now trying to get divorced. But things didn’t turn out the way Bill Harding wanted them to do so. When they are trying to sign the papers of the divorce, the weather changed and finally the largest storm they had been preparing for was about to occur. This storm is very important because it had hit a city before and it has come back to hit Oklahoma. This storm is a very important event for both Jo and Bill because meteorologist Harding had been preparing a machine that would be able to help advance the warning system from 3 seconds to at least 15 minutes. In order for people to be able to evacuate and be more cautioned. Thus both Dr. Jo and Bill had to “plant” this machine inside the tornado. But both Jo and Bill face many problems and competition between another group of scientists that had basically copied Bill’s idea.

The movie would have been interesting to me if I hadn’t been living in the “technology” world, since the movie was based on improving the tornado warning system. Now we live in a world that is more developed and new ideas, experiments and scientific related stuff is like an aspect of daily life. As a scientist I should be very proud of this and in fact I am because this shows how much science has developed over the past years and the improvements we made affected the world today. Also I didn’t quiet like the movie much because as usual movies have very unrealistic parts and effects to make people believe in them and have an influence on them in a way. An example is when the tornado hit the area they were taking a break in, and they went “underground” no one was hurt or injured by the falling pieces of metal or poles collapsing. Another scene was when they stood under the wooden bridge and the top wood part totally came off when the tornado hit. This is totally unrealistic because tornadoes are the “nature’s most violent storms”. Sometimes tornadoes hit very fast without giving any warnings as we all may know, especially people who live in areas with a lot of tornadoes occurring at once, therefore it could be impossible to know when a tornado could really take place and warn people 15 minutes earlier because they develop super fast. They could also be transparent until they pick up any dust or debris. Tornadoes form when the warm air rises from the ground and meets the cooler yet drier air and then the moisture in the warm air condenses and forms a huge thundercloud. Therefore this causes the tornado to form in a funnel shape. The F5 tornado they referred to in the movie basically causes massive damages. The winds blow at 261 mph and are able to life houses from their solid foundation and throw them miles away. Although the F5 is a very dangerous storm, it’s rare in a way. There are only 1 percent of these types of tornadoes that cause this damage, which can be classified as the F5. Others could be F1 also known as the “moderate damage category” they may cause less damage but are still dangerous.

On the other hand the movie has managed to keep the suspense and the great influence on the viewers until the end. This shows that it’s partially scientifically true and has some supporting ideas and facts about tornadoes. It also had this great effect that made things seem real in a certain way, for example when they were under the tornado the effect of them being sucked into the tornado seemed really although as well all saw, the tornado didn’t manage to suck them in. In the picture to the write is a photo of the area's in the U.S that are mostly affected by Tornadoes.

Thanks for checking out my theory about tornadoes and my critique about the movie (twister). I shall be updating my site with any new information and experiments about tornadoes that I will receive as soon as possible. So please don’t forget to stop by and check if I have anything new to inform you.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Mariam Awadalla, meteorologist specialized in tornadoes and any other types of winds and is a professor at University of California.

Shabanu anticipation guide

1. It is possible to experience love at 1st sight:
Disagree -because sometimes people can “love” a person according to their looks and actions but don’t know them. I believe that love at first sight only exists in fairytales, movies or stories. I think that people should spend sometime together to get to know each other so then they can decide whether to like him/her. Also choosing people for their personalities and not just their looks. Although sometimes you don't have to choose someone who has a good personality but looks totally hideous. Try maybe going for a person who you trust that is going to be a good "soul mate" and you can trust him or her.

2. 2 complete strangers stuck on a deserted island could learn to love one another:
Agree- because it depends on what type of love. The type where they have to like each other to cooperate and depend on each other for survival or the real love where they get to know each other more. If it’s a boy and a girl maybe they could love each other when they get to know one another and understand each ones point of view in different things and their likes and dislikes. In addition they might have to like each other in order for them to respect one another and learn to be happy and live together until they are rescued maybe?

3. It is a good thing to sacrifice your happiness for the desires of others:
Disagree- because you should also care about yourself and your feelings as well otherwise you would keep on helping people and forgetting your life and happiness just to please others, even if they don’t help you or be there for you or even appreciate what your doing for them. Also people should enjoy their lives because life is short so they should live it up to the "max" and worry about themselves first then others. Also sometimes most people would deny the favor you did for them to be happy or to help them. they would basically just deny it because they don't want to owe anyone or for any other reasons.

4. Women in your society are free citizens:
Disagree- because in some traditions and places women have no rights in public events, family life or jobs. Also women are known for taking care of children and being housewives. Some women don’t get to finish university because they’re either poor or getting married. Also some women can’t wear certain clothes because of traditions, religions or just because their husbands don’t want them to. Even sometimes women aren't supposed to drive in some traditions and the only person who's allowed to drive is the man/husband. That's because the man is supposed to be stronger than a woman and usually men are known as the "head" of a family in some cultures and countries and everyone has to follow them.

The Outsiders Critique

I preferred the movie better because I could visualize what was happening instead of imagining the scenes while reading. That’s because when I read books I’m busy concentrating on what I’m reading that I don’t imagine what’s happening. Therefore I don’t understand the story. Although the Outsiders book was good and detailed, unlike the movie, I didn’t visualize what was happening unless it was explained. Sometimes books can be exciting but most people are not bothered to read thus they wait for the movie instead.

Most parts of the movie were very different because they were restated by the screen adapter. Some were even skipped. The rewriting also had scenes that weren’t mentioned in the novel, just because the director wanted to make things clearer or replacing the skipped scenes. An unnecessary scene was when pony boy’s parent’s car was apparently crashed by a train. That wasn’t mentioned in the novel but I think they placed it in so it made things clear for the people to understand, if they haven’t read the novel, that his parents had passed away. Another totally random and out of the blue scene was when Dally saw the little kid’s playing cards and chased them, just because he disliked little kids. Yet again the screen adapter or the director maybe wanted to present the characters and their personalities. I think that maybe instead of most useless scenes they could have replaced them with more important events. Such as: the court scene where the judge has to decide whether Ponyboy and Sodapop could stay with Darry or get sent to foster homes. After all scenes were expected to be left out since it’s a movie. The part I got confused at the most was when ponyboy started and ended the movie by writing his story. If we haven’t read the book in class, we would have thought that the director wasn’t bothered to explain why he did that. I think that just before he ended the movie, he should have mentioned something about his bad grades in English. Therefore he had to write this story.

Other than the differences, there were some similarities. Most similar scenes that were adapted from the novel weren’t detailed enough. A scene that was true to the novel was when Dally was being flirtatious with Cherry V. at the drive “open air” theater. Another scene was when cherry talked to ponyboy and said that she has never seen him before and when she told him he was quiet young for high school. These two scenes were the same as the book. There was also a scene in a different setting with Ponyboy and Cherry Valance as well and she told him that “things are rough all over”, even if it was with the Socs or greasers. These were some examples of the similar scenes.

I enjoyed reading the book with the class because it was more interesting. If I had to read it on my own, I would have taken it back to the library, or wherever I got it from, after reading the first few pages. I would have also watched the movies 1st if I have heard about it before the book so I could compare them both. I liked it when our teacher forced us to read it as a class novel so I could have learned about some of the troubles young people and poor people had to go through years ago. Especially the poor kids without parents to be there for them, support them, take care of them and show them that they really love them. Unlike the Socs whose parents just bought them what they wanted because they thought that that meant loving them. Although money can never buy love, people have to show love by caring about others and maybe sometimes being harsh on them for their benefit. Like what Darry was doing to Ponyboy because he cared about him and wanted him to grow up and have a future.

“You don't have to sacrifice good taste for good health!”

I chose this podcast because it talked about a book written for healthy living and healthy food. The books name is “The Healthiest Meals on Earth” and the surprises of what to eat and the reason. The author has written many books about health and what’s related to that subject. I found the podcast even more interesting because the author wasn’t just the normal author who writes stories; he is an expert on weight loss, nutrition and health. He stated that some of the healthy food has become rare in most houses and because everyone is in hurry and they are just eating the easiest things they could find, that’s most probably unhealthy since they don’t have time to prepare an actually healthy dish. The author also mentions the Polly pills and a Polly meal and what they are. The Polly pills can help improve people health and decrease chances of any heart disease and can “add 4-5 years to human’s healthy life”. The Polly meal also reduces chances of heart disease by 80% and gives people 9 more years. This book provides us with a lot of health tips to keep our meals and life as healthy as possible. It also informs us to be careful of what were cooking and eating. It also includes why people should eat a certain vegetable or fruit, what should be cooked in a certain way and what to use when you’re cooking. Also some fruits, vegetables and meat are not as bad as we think. Some could be very helpful and some could be harmful. “Nutrition’s are kind of like politics” as the author said. In my opinion I thought that the sentence above meant that sometimes health or nutrition’s are as complicated as politics and if you make a mistake it can harm everything you’ve been building. The author also said that people shouldn’t have too much dairy products and they should understand the “contrast of their lives and try to balance it” they should mix what they eat because then they would have all the nutrition’s their body needs and proteins. Also be careful of the parboiled foods because they have lost all their vitamins. Most of these tips have been mentioned before and some of us don’t really pay attention and that’s way sometimes we wish we listened and followed these tips. I think this is a really good book that people should read to know more about nutrition’s and take care of their health more. I also liked the podcast because it was quiet descriptive and revealed some useful information without spoiling the book.

TWILIGHT RATED UNFAIRLY IN CY.

Teenagers claimed to the McDaily news that the ratings for the premier of the movie Twilight, from the book series written by Stephanie Meyer, were unfair. The girls stated that they didn’t allow them in because they were under the age of 15 although they informed them that they were almost 15. Later then the girls decided to watch another movie. When they paid for the tickets and were waiting for them to come out, one of the girls spotted the lady changing the rating of the movie from 15 to 12. When she told her other friends they were completely infuriated and went to talk to the manager and inform him about what happened. Instead he calmly informed them that he could go and change their tickets to watch twilight. However the girls threw the tickets in his face and took their money back then left. The girls also informed our newspaper that they changed the ratings because there were hardly any adults to watch the movie and too many little kids.
